Juneteenth
Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It symbolizes the end of slavery in the United States and is a powerful celebration of African American freedom, resilience, and culture. Juneteenth became a U.S. federal holiday in 2021.
