**Juneteenth**, celebrated on **June 19**, marks the day in **1865** when enslaved people in **Galveston, Texas** were finally informed of their freedom—**more than two years** after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It symbolizes the **end of slavery in the United States** and is a powerful celebration of **African American freedom, resilience, and culture**. Juneteenth became a U.S. **federal holiday in 2021**.
