The unexamined life is not worth living

A quote from Socrates about life

Dear Friend in Spirit,
This Sunday, January 14th join us at The Center for Spiritual Living DC as we continue the January New Year energy by once again grounding ourselves in Spiritual Truths that we know will uplift not only our own consciousness as well as the overall consciousness in the Nation’s capital!

Encouragement

This Sunday, we shall receive an ENCOURAGEMENT from Rev. Ray Anderson.

Rev. Dr. RayReverend Dr. Raymont Anderson returns to ENCOURAGE us this Sunday. In his words:
Recently there was a study done, whose results identified a huge need for people to become skilled in a trade. So many people are going to colleges that fewer are becoming skilled at a trade. Would you believe it if I told you that we, in New Thought are showing similar results? Like any skill, our use of Spiritual Principles and the tools of the trade will be enhanced and made stronger through our consistent and effective use. Our lack of use will cause our spiritual muscles to atrophy. The choice is always ours; do we stay in a place of theoretical living or step in to a place of practical living?
Whether Plato who was credited with the quote or Socrates the more likely author, “An unexamined life is not worth living,” the more pressing question is: do you know how to develop these spiritual muscles?

Endings and Beginnings

Every end is a new beginning

Beloved Friend in Spirit –

What shall we leave in 2017? What shall we welcome in 2018? Who do WE want to be? Who do YOU want to be?

This Sunday we will engage in a fun ritual to release what no longer serves our highest good and embrace a lightness of being. I see for you a joyful, energetic body, a loving, compassionate heart and a mind that easily rests and easily focuses!

At the Center we offer unconditional love and non-judgment and seek to provide a place where we can together explore spiritual principles.

In addition to my Encouragement, this Sunday we’ll have Music by César Guarcax.

I hope you can join us! And please save the date for the Vision Board Playshop after service on January 7.

in gratitude, – Reverend Alex

Beloved Friend in Spirit –

Seasons Greetings! May this be a time of light and peace for you, your family and our world. The Core Council joins me in thanking you for your support of our mission and vision. We see the best in you and know that our community is making a positive difference in Washington, DC and beyond!

This Sunday we will explore what it means to Open to Grace: to relish the gifts of winter and remember that what we look with determines what we see. My prayer for you is that you find time over the next couple of weeks to celebrate, to reflect, to laugh and to find good. At the Center we will continue to offer unconditional love and non-judgment and to provide a place where we can together explore spiritual principles.

In addition to my Encouragement, this Sunday we’ll have a Power Talk from Practitioner Terry Oliver and Music by Practitioner Heather Jones.

I hope you can join us! And please save the date for the Vision Board Playshop after service on January 7.

in gratitude, – Reverend Alex

Rev. Dr. Raymont Anderson

Rev. Dr. Raymont Anderson will encourage us on the Hero’s Journey. In his words:
Luke Skywalker, Peter Parker, Frodo and Harry Potter have what in common?
All of them are archetypal demonstrations of the hero’s journey; with a quest of greatness.
Part of the problem with this thing called greatness is the rubric by which we are measuring it. Greatness is not a human construct, it is a Divine one. If you want to embrace your greatness you may have to step out in courage in order to go against the grain. You were born great, you are great, greatness is what you can choose to achieve everyday, and there is no need to have it thrust upon you because it is expressed through you.

Dianne Stewart Hamlin

So what if your marriage failed? So what if you lost your house. So what if you got fired from your job! So what if you got a promotion? So what if you have not fully paid off your student loans? So what if you are over 50, under 50 or almost 50? So what if you are just starting out or feel like you are almost done? SO WHAT? You are never too old or too young for a new dream or new goal; never too old or too young to change the world, never too old or too young to change your life-style! You are never too young or too old!!! All you have to do is be ready to create a new set point!!! Just be ready to say, “Its not over yet!” Be ready to be happy! Be ready to love again. Be ready to live the life you have full-out and full-on! Be ready to give in to be all that you were created to be and say yes to your dreams. Be Ready to Boldly Step into YOUR life and begin right where you are!!! Lean into the Diving and Trust the Process! Spirit will make a way out of no way. Yes, there is room for your dreams, your visions and your brand new life. ~Dianne Stewart Hamlin

This Sunday, we shall receive an ENCOURAGEMENT from a guest – The Rev. Ōshin Jennings.
Rev. Ōshin Jennings, Hoshi, is a Deaf Zen Buddhist monk in the White Plum lineage of Soto Zen. Ōshin is a student of Enkyo O’Hara Roshi, Abbott of the Village Zendo, who named him a Dharma Holder/Assistant Teacher, in 2016. Ōshin serves as the Village Zendo’s representative on the Buddhist Council of New York, where he lives and works as a psychotherapist and artist. The focus of Ōshin’s research is where creativity, meditation, and psychological health meet. As possibly the first ever Deaf Zen Buddhist priest, Ōshin is a pioneer in, and frequent lecturer on, making the Buddhist teachings accessible to communities that traditionally have had limited access to the Dharma. As part of his vision of accessibility he founded No Barriers Zen to provide accessible meditation to the Greater Washington, D.C. area.

“Do you believe that what you appreciate appreciates? That what you are thankful for manifests more to be thankful for? If you do, does your life experience demonstrate this belief? Is your life demonstrating a blockage to the flow of prosperity or is your life experience demonstrating the evidence of, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over…?” Let us today become newly aware and grateful of the Truth that our blessings are more numerous than the grains of sand on a thousand beaches and more vast in quantity than the stars in the heavens!” ~Rev. Dr. Ray

Here we may meet difficulties, uncertainties and doubts, barriers walling our passage. But we must not be discouraged when so confronted. We must climb over the rocks of unbelief, pass around the barriers of doubt and plunge into the stream with faith. The stream will ever widen; the barriers will gradually disappear; though we walk through the plains and valleys of indecision and doubt, the stream will still carry us back to the ocean of our being.
